CLUB HISTORY

Amateur runners, sports lovers, in Nicosia, founded the "Pericles Demetriou" Cyprus Runners Club in 1987. Its name comes from the unforgettable marathon runner, Pericles Demetriou, who was a pure, idealist athlete, humanitarian and an idle when it came to manners and behavior.

The foundation of the club aimed at uniting all amateur runners and forwarding, at the best possible way, its members interests, concerns and ambitions. It is generally looking for the forwarding of running as a mean of exercise, health and good physical condition as well as spreading of sports in general.

In particular, the club aims at the socialization of sports by promoting of sports for all and by using it for philanthropic and national purposes. The "Pericles Demetriou" Club is well established towards the opinion of the people as the first club with sport, philanthropic and National events.

The activities of the club for the forwarding of its purposes are:
A. Running races and athletic activities with no competition with wide participation.
B. Seminars and educational, coaching camping.
C. Excursions, balls, meetings etc for the entertainment of the members.
D. Participation or encouragement to participate in the activities of other organizations that link to the aims of the club.
E. Cooperating with the local sports authorities.

Anyone who wishes to become a member no matter the age, social status, education or political preferences is welcome to join.
